Professor David Greenaway
The Vice-Chancellor of The University of Nottingham
This is one of the first campuses of a British university to be opened outside the UK and anywhere in the world. The University of Nottingham is proud to be on this historic project with Boustead Holdings Berhad and YTL Corporation Berhad. We warmly welcome their commitment to the provision of quality higher education in Malaysia and in the region.
The University of Nottingham has enjoyed close and happy links with Malaysia for more than 50 years. Generations of Malaysian students have chosen to study at Nottingham, and well over 1,000 Malaysians have graduated from the University since 1950. Many of these graduates now occupy senior positions in business, in industry and in the professions in Malaysia.
Our distinguished graduates include HRH The Sultan of Perak and HRH The Yang Di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan; we were indeed honoured that they have both visited The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. We have a thriving graduates' association in Malaysia - Persatuan Siswazah Nottingham - which organises many social events, reuniting friends and associates and maintaining close links with Nottingham.
The Chairman of the Malaysia Campus, YM Tengku Tan Sri Dato' Seri Ahmad Rithauddeen, is himself a distinguished law graduate of The University of Nottingham. My University owes an enormous debt of gratitude to YM Tengku for his tireless work over several years to bring about the success of this project. The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus is both an expression of our very special relationship with Malaysia and a direct response to the Malaysian Government's plans to establish Malaysia as a centre of excellence for higher education.
The Malaysia Campus moved to a purpose-built campus at Semenyih, 30km south of Kuala Lumpur in 2005. The state-of-the-art campus offers an excellent study and learning environment. Senior professors from The University of Nottingham,UK have been seconded to provide the academic leadership for all the degree programmes on offer, and high calibre academic staff are also being recruited from Malaysia and internationally. All of our degree programmes have already been running successfully at The University of Nottingham,UK for a number of years.
My University looks forward to the continued development of the Malaysia Campus. I hope that we may have the pleasure of welcoming you as one of our students, as this historic enterprise grows and expands.
