Biography

Salomy Sumithra Krishna functions as the Wellbeing Liaison Officer at the Centre for English Language and Foundation Education. She has taught in institutions of higher learning in Malaysia for 23 years, gaining experience in various teaching and administrative roles. Salomy holds a Master in Linguistics from the University of Malaya, Malaysia, and a B.Ed. TESL (Hons) degree from the University of Chichester in the UK. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK).

Salomy's research interests lie in the areas of Critical Thinking, Text and Discourse Analysis, Academic Writing Skills and Classroom Research.

For her Master in Linguistics dissertation, Salomy examined how readers of different faiths interpreted a religious text specific to one faith. Her study suggests that unless readers share the writer's schemata, their interpretations of the text will either be limited or distorted unless sufficient context is provided to the reader beforehand.
