Our PhD student Oh MeiShin and recently graduated Master student Tan Kean Seng were selected as the top 7 groups among 44 groups that participated in the 2015 Hilti Big Data Analytics competition. The event is a program held from 3rd March to 6th March (3 days 3 nights) where all the finalists from different countries (Australia, China, Canada, Netherlands and Malaysia) and 10 judges gathered in Malaysia for the program. Students had the chance to visit Hilti’s office in Malaysia and had a deeper understanding on their working culture where they support a culture of work-life balance. Students also had the chance to interact with all the participants, judges and Hilti’s team leaders and staff members. The prototype that was presented in this competition was named as ‘Hilti Map Commerce’ which can be used by Hilti’s Territory Sales Personnel to predict and recommend Hilti’s products to customers in order to promote cross selling at the same time to achieve time and cost efficiency.
