About 7-SEAS

Initiated in 2007, through a process with the US State Department and governments in Southeast Asia, NCAR Research Applications Laboratory, NASA AErosol RObotic NETwork (AERONET) program, and the Office of Naval Research international field offices, the 7 South East Asian Studies (7-SEAS) seeks to perform interdisciplinary research and develop a wide-ranging South East Asian scientific data network in the field of aerosol-meteorology and climate interaction in the region extending from Java through the Malay Peninsula and Southeast Asia to Taiwan.

In particular, 7-SEAS, a grass-root style program focuses on the following seven broad-based study topics:

  1. Aerosol lifecycle and air quality;
  2. Tropical meteorology;
  3. Radiation and heat balance;
  4. Clouds and precipitation;
  5. Land processes and fire;
  6. Physical and biological oceanography; and
  7. Environmental characterization through satellite analyses, model predictions and verification.

About the workshop

We'll explore these studies in this participatory workshop which aims to:

  • share experiences and experimental outcomes among academics and scientists;
  • identify areas where future efforts should be focused;
  • build support networks among participants.

Upon registration, participants will be asked if they'd like to make an oral and/or poster presentation, or participate only. This activity takes the form of a workshop rather than a scientific conference, with active discussion on the data, the nature of the Southeast Asian atmospheric environment and the planning for remote sensing, modelling and field research.
