MA Special Needs Education
MA Special Educational Needs
This course is designed for teachers who have a professional interest in increasing their knowledge and skills in the field of special needs. Students enrolling on the course come from a variety of backgrounds but tend to be primary, secondary or special needs teachers.
The MA in Special Needs explores psychological aspects of the behavioural and learning difficulties experienced in educational establishments and looks at ways in which the resultant educational needs can be met. In addition, there is a strong input of personal and social education and the opportunity to develop counselling and interpersonal skills. These aspects of the programme are developed through experiential learning and provide participants with the skills to develop and facilitate personal learning in the classroom.
The focus of the teaching and learning on the MA in Special Needs is geared towards the reflective and experiential input of participants (while that on the MA in Professional Development in Special Needs is more theory-based and more suited for the less experienced).
