Why Study Engineering?
An engineering degree will provide you with skills for a career in engineering and a professional life, whether or not you choose to become an engineer! Here at Nottingham we’ll add real value to your applied science training via real-world problems, communications, teamwork, entrepreneurship, IT, management skills, business principles, creativity and innovation. Our graduates have skills that international, blue chip employers are looking for and many find lucrative employment in sectors such as consultancy, finance, IT, commerce and education. We can help to open the door to a rich and varied set of career opportunities.
Undergraduate Degree courses
The Faculty of Engineering at the Malaysia Campus offers a wide range of degree courses covering all aspects of engineering.
Course Structure
All degree courses at Nottingham are modular. Modules are self-contained units of study that normally run for one semester. The majority of our modules are worth 10 credits and you will study modules totaling 120 credits in each year. You will also work on a large project in your final year.
Some of our degrees are available as both a 3 year BEng and a 4 year MEng. Both of these options will provide you with the same core skills but those taking the MEng will undertake a more substantial project with greater opportunity for specialisation and experience of research methods. Where both options are offered, you can make the final choice of 3 or 4 years towards the end of your second year of study.
Your personal tutor will advise you and guide you through the academic pathways available to you.
Assessment and Progression
Assessment at the end of each semester combines examinations, coursework, laboratory work and projects. Progression through a course is based on an annual appraisal covering all that year’s modules. Assessment isn’t all one-way: at the end of every module you’ll have the chance to fill in a questionnaire with your comments, helping us to ensure we are providing the best possible learning experience.
Industrial Placement and Study Abroad (Exchange Programme)
All our courses offer the opportunity to take up to a year out, studying abroad or working in industry. We run a number of summer research internships where you can join us to help tackle real engineering problems at the forefront of knowledge and understanding. Many of our students undertake summer Industrial Placements at local companies – often a great way to develop your career prospects.
Students registered on undergraduate programmes at the Malaysia Campus have the opportunity to spend part of their period of study in the UK Campus. There are two schemes under which this can be done and these are outlined below.
Student Exchange Scheme
This scheme allows students studying on undergraduate programmes at the Malaysia Campus to spend one or two semesters at the UK Campus. Students on the Exchange Scheme continue to pay Malaysia Campus fees whilst in the UK and must return to Malaysia Campus to complete their studies. They will not be allowed to transfer to the UK campus to complete their studies.
Transfers to University of Nottingham, UK
Students who have not taken part in the Student Exchange Scheme at any time during their studies can transfer their studies to Nottingham after one, two or three years of study at Malaysia Campus, subject to programme requirements and acceptance by the Department in Nottingham. The ‘receiving Department’ in Nottingham has responsibility for the selection criteria, and takes advice from the Malaysia Campus. Students who transfer to Nottingham will pay the relevant Nottingham International Student fee.
Professional Recognition
All our undergraduate engineering courses are accredited by professional institutions, ensuring that quality is independently measured, and that material is up-to-date and relevant to the needs of modern commerce and industry.
