An active programme of research within the School of Computer Science spans accross all of its campuses. Research can lead to the degrees of MPhil or PhD.

The School was ranked in the top 10 per cent of UK Institutions in the  2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). The research activity in the School was considered of international quality, with 80 per cent of it rated as world class/internationally leading. The research at the UK campus is centred around four research groups and two cross-disciplinary groups. The research at the Malaysia Campus is focused on the investigation and development of Intelligent Decision Support Systems.
