School of Pharmacy

The University of Nottingham MPharm was the first Pharmacy degree on offer in Malaysia to be fully accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. For our students, this opens up the possibility of practicing as Pharmacists, not only within the UK, but also in Malaysia and the numerous other countries around the world that recognise the UK four-year pharmacy Masters degree. When the accreditation of the course delivered at the Malaysia Campus was successfully completed in July 2007 it was the first time that the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain has approved a degree course delivered, in part, outside of Europe.

Ranked as the UK’s best School of Pharmacy in the National Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008), it is not surprising that we are one of the most popular choices for undergraduate study. As a holder of the Queen's Award for Enterprise in the category of Innovation in 2007, the School of Pharmacy is an ideal place for your talents to flourish; where you can guarantee that you are being taught by the highest calibre of academic staff.

Established in 1925, the School has grown steadily and is now at the forefront of academic development and progress. With the combined intake at the UK and Malaysia Campuses, the School is now the largest of the UK Schools of Pharmacy.

The School of Pharmacy offers a four-year undergraduate Pharmacy programme leading to the honours degree of Master of Pharmacy (MPharm). The MPharm programme develops naturally from the pre-university subjects of chemistry, biology, physics and mathematics. The first two years are studied in Malaysia at the Malaysia Campus and the final two years at the Nottingham UK campus. You therefore have the unrivalled opportunity of learning and experiencing UK aspects of clinical pharmacy, prior to practice.

A degree in Pharmacy prepares students for careers in all branches of pharmacy such as in industry, research, hospital or community pharmacy. Our graduates are to be found in senior positions throughout the pharmacy world in all areas of the profession.

Our teaching was graded as “excellent” during the last UK Quality Assurance Assessment audit. The QAA report highlighted the School’s "high-quality teaching, well-managed approach to assessment, and systematic development of professional skills and clearly identified key skills through the undergraduate programme.”

Research is crucial to the pharmaceutical industry and our teaching staff are at the leading edge of scientific and healthcare developments. We have a long and distinguished research history, the RAE 2008 found that 95% of the School's research was of international quality, and 35% "world-leading". Our commitment to research also ensures the opportunity for fourth year students to conduct individual research projects alongside academic staff renowned in their fields.

Our MPharm degree also equips you with a range of skills and a knowledge-base valued by many employers not directly related to Pharmacy. Hence, graduates may also choose to develop careers in areas as varied as scientific writing, marketing or management.

You can be certain that as a Nottingham pharmacy graduate you will be a valuable commodity, wherever in the world you choose to practice.
