Milestones

The University of Nottingham has, throughout its history, been at the forefront of internationalisation in higher education.

  • It was the first British university to establish campuses overseas, in Malaysia (2000), and China (2004).
  • In 2009, we formally launched a comprehensive new Internationalisation Strategy, entitled ‘Knowledge Without Borders’.
  • Our second Dearing Memorial Conference, in February 2011, ‘The Globalisation of Higher Education’, drove the agenda for discussion of international higher education and drew contributions from all over the world.
  • We launched the Knowledge Without Borders Public Lecture series in December 2011, hosting a number of distinguished speaker events, mapping and exploring this rapidly developing field.
  • In 2012, we opened satellite offices in India, Ghana and Brazil.

The Knowledge Without Borders Network builds on these initiatives, confirming our status as pioneers and leaders in global higher education.
