Hosted by The Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), the half day intensive conference on 'How to make our universities more autonomous' is organised to share findings on the future of governance in higher education institutions in Malaysia.
Professor Tan Sri Dr Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, was appointed to chair and lead this project to understand how higher education institutions in Malaysia can improve with more autonomy and ensuring they are accountable.
This study builds upon two key documents in Malaysian Higher Education, the National Higher Education Blueprint and the Wan Zahid Report of 2005, a report which was tabled in the Parliament in the same year. Dr Sean Matthews, convenor for the Knowledge Without Borders Network project and former Head of School of Modern Languages and Cultures will be presenting in one of the panels discussing on ‘Higher Education models from other countries and lessons learned in Malaysia’.
Conference participants will benefit from the paper presentations derived from four roundtables conducted on this topic in the past year. The national level conference will bring together contributors the final recommendations of this project, where inputs from various stakeholders from the government, public and private universities are compiled in a report that will be presented to the Minister of Higher Education Malaysia at the end of the conference.
