SMLC team members held an impromptu welcome lunch on Friday, 4 November to welcome back Dr Joanne Lim – for good! Dr Lim is now our Head of School-designate, and will take over from Dr Sean Matthews when he begins his move back to the UK early in 2017. (SMLC staff welcome Joanne Lim – from left: Anne Lutgen, Joanne Lim, Gaik Cheng Khoo, Sergio Camacho, Leong Yut Moy, Sean Matthews, Jean-Christophe Graffe, Thomas Barker, Kwan Hwee Ling)Joanne was a stalwart of the school between 2009 and 2015, contributing immensely to the foundation and growth of our programmes. She left us for Monash University, Malaysia, where she led on the development of their postgraduate provision in Communications and Media Studies, and contributed to the overhaul of their undergraduate provision. Joanne also chaired the School of Arts and Social Sciences External Engagement, Alumni and Marketing Committee, and directed the Technology, Media and Society research cluster. Joanne has already begun a review of SMLC activities, collaborating with colleagues to formulate a new strategic roadmap for the coming phase of our development. Welcome back, and good luck, Dr Lim!
