The 6th Annual Nottingham Charity Run on the 9th of March 2014 raised RM 36,000 for the Children’s Development Fund of World Vision Malaysia. A student led initiative, the Run was organised by ACE (Action with Compassion & Empathy) Society.

It was opened to the public with the aim of fundraising for World Vision Malaysia and specifically its work in support of children. More than 800 participants registered this year for the 10km (Men), 10km (Women) and 5km (Fun Run) categories.

“On the day of the event, more than 100 dedicated volunteers arrived at 3.00 am to set up for the Run. Registration started at 5 am and the campus slowly burst into action soon after, with the arrival of many excited participants,” said Ong Yoke Pei, president of ACE Society.

The event was successfully led by Tan Jia Min, one of the event managers from ACE Society UNMC who volunteered at the previous year’s Run.

The Run was flagged off by Professor Christine Ennew, CEO and Provost of UNMC who gave the participants an upbeat encouraging speech at the flag off. Also present was Ninian Tian, Marketing Executive at World Vision Malaysia.

“Our students continue to outdo themselves. Last year’s Run raised over RM 18,000 for Hospis Malaysia and this year they have virtually doubled the amount.  In them, I see a generation which is success-oriented and still acutely aware of their responsibility to give something back and to make a difference to the society in which they live,” said Professor Christine Ennew.

“Their time at the University of Nottingham, enables them to develop as well rounded individuals who are able to excel in academia, research, sports and community engagement,” said Professor Ennew
