Designed specifically to meet the vision of the Malaysian Government, this first-of-its kind collaboration will create a unique specialist course for students undertaking further study in accountancy, finance and strategic management.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) launched its strategic partnership with The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) today, a first-of-its-kind collaboration for teaching and learning of specialist accounting skills.

The partnership will provide a unique opportunity for students undertaking Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) Malaysia’s Master of Science (MSc) Professional Accountancy programme to enhance their knowledge and professional skills in key subject areas with ICAEW’s industry-driven professional qualification.

“As a world leader in business and finance, ICAEW is committed to sharing knowledge, insight and values towards building a world of strong economies. As Malaysia works towards the creation of more specialised professional accountants, this strategic partnership is one of the innovative methods that ICAEW is employing to enable unique professional study options that meet the needs of the future business world,” said Mark Billington, ICAEW Regional Director for Southeast Asia.

The MSc Professional Accountancy programme will contribute towards the strengthening of the accountancy profession in Malaysia. The programme provides an accelerated route towards attaining a professional qualification, and at the same time producing graduates of a full-fledged well-rounded postgraduate education with soft skills valued by employers.

“This MSc Professional Accountancy programme offered by NUBS Malaysia provides an opportunity to obtain a taught postgraduate degree from The University of Nottingham with the advantage of it being in collaboration with ICAEW,” says Professor Graham Kendall, Provost and CEO of The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.

“This collaboration with ICAEW is the first of its kind outside of the United Kingdom and is the first in Malaysia. It enables the student to gain possible exemptions from ICAEW Professional Level papers, while reading for a Masters degree.”

The partnership will also see the appointment of ICAEW examiners from the United Kingdom who will review course content, examinations and the marking process against the Insititution’s renowned robust global standards.
