The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) hosted a graduation ceremony on 17 February 2017, witnessing the graduation of undergraduate and postgraduate students from The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Science. The event was hosted by The University of Nottingham Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir David Greenaway and UNMC CEO and Provost Professor Graham Kendall.

UNMC CEO and Provost Professor Graham Kendall said: “One of the hallmarks of a good university is the quality of its graduates and we are proud of our graduates who have gone on to become the best in their fields.”

The University of Nottingham is one of the top choices for graduate recruitment among UK employers, according to High Fliers Research, which found that Nottingham came second in their list of universities targeted by the largest number of top employers in 2015-2016.

The University of Nottingham encourages and supports students to ensure that they have a full-rounded experience whilst studying, which includes participating in work placements. This includes the Nottingham Advantage Award, which enables students to take extra-curricular modules alongside their study programmes.

The ceremony also witnessed speeches by UNMC alumnus Fabiolla Netto and UNMC Student Council Chairperson Ahmed Afrah Ismail. Netto graduated from Business, Economics & Finance in June last year and Afrah is a final year student at the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing at UNMC.

Ahmed Afrah Ismail said during this speech: “The world offers us endless opportunities; you just have to be ready to seize the opportunities once they present themselves. It may be for things you have no experience in doing, but don’t let that stop you. Always remember those times when you had no clue what you were doing for your coursework that was due in a day, but somehow figured it out, and submitted it. Just continue to believe in yourself.”

“Education is a lifelong journey and though you have worked very hard towards this day, I encourage you to continue to have the same drive, passion and diligence which you had as students. This will be a powerful tool in your careers and your personal life. Do also continue to engage with the 250,000 University of Nottingham graduates worldwide, likeminded people with the same drive for excellence,” said Professor Graham Kendall while addressing the graduates.

The graduation ceremony was also attended by University of Nottingham in Malaysia Board member Datuk Zainal Abidin Haji Ahmad, Executive Chairman of Nusantara Technologies and UNMC honorary graduate Datuk Dr Ghazali Yusoff, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Faculty of Languages and Communication Associate Professor Dr Nor Azmi Mostafa, UNMC Vice-Provost (Teaching & Learning) Professor Fon Sim, Ong and Vice-Provost (Research & Knowledge Exchange) Professor Claire O’Malley.
