UNMC Assistant Professor presents and mentors at American political science conference

Assistant Professor Guy Burton attended the Midwest Political Science Association conference in Chicago from 7 to 10 April. He presented a paper on the actions of emerging global powers in relation to the Israel-Palestinian conflict. The paper was based on interviews and research undertaken by Dr Burton in Israel and the West Bank during summer 2015 (and which was funded by a travel grant from the American Political Science Association). Following its presentation, Dr Burton will be reworking the paper for publication, most likely in a peer-reviewed academic journal.

In addition, Dr Burton ran two mentoring sessions for graduate students during the conference. He met with current PhD students and a postdoctoral fellow to offer advice and suggestions regarding their own research projects and academic career options once they finish their studies. Among the advice he offered related to research and work in the Middle East. He was able to do so, based on his own previous employment and research interests based on the region – and which he teaches a course on the politics and international relations of the Middle East to final year undergraduate students.
