The Centre for the Study of Communications & Culture (CSCC) presents a seminar titled The Challenges of Promoting & Protecting Human Rights in Malaysia - A Public Lecture by Long Seh Lih, Co-Founder of Pusat Rakyat Loyar Burok. Long Seh Lih is co-founder for the Malaysian Centre for Constitutionalism and Human Rights, also fondly known as Pusat Rakyat Loyar Burok. She was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2003, and has worked with the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia(SUHAKAM), focusing on international human rights treaties and law reform; spearheaded two public inquiries – death in custody and freedom of peaceful assembly.She has worked with the United Nations as a human rights officer in Afghanistan and Timor-Leste, and led the human rights elections team in monitoring the 2009 Afghanistan Presidential and Provincial Council elections; investigated, verified and followed-up on human rights violations including some high profile cases and mass graves; fact-finding missions to prisons, juvenile correction and rehabilitation centres, detention centres; and provided advice on human rights education in the formal education system.The event will consist of a presentation followed by Q&A.
