Internship: EcoKnights (Malaysia)

EcoKnights Social Media Internship

Description:
EcoKnights is a not-for-profit environmental organisation registered with the Malaysian Registrar of Societies. The organisation was founded by Yasmin Rasyid and Mariam Osman in 2005 as a small collective offering urban community assistance in developing their own environmental initiatives. Today, EcoKnights employs six full time officers and is managed by a Board of Committees which consists of seven members, with the professional guidance of three advisors.

EcoKnights’ mission is to inspire sustainable living among Malaysians through: 

  1. Providing platforms where activities on sustainability can be shared with the masses; 
  2. Youth development programmes; 
  3. Publication and documentation of environment-related materials;
  4. Capacity building in areas of community engagement and environmental education; and 
  5. Smart partnerships with corporate and government agencies in developing effective engagement programmes on sustainability with the general public.
Our vision is to raise a nation of ecologically conscious Malaysians that embrace and adopt sustainable lifestyles.

Non-profit environmental organisation, EcoKnights, is looking for a Social Media Intern to contribute 10-15 hours per week managing and coordinating several social media accounts registered under the EcoKnights name.

Title: Social Media Intern

Job Purpose: To regularly monitor and manage several social media accounts in order to promote both EcoKnights projects and EcoKnights as an organisation.

Job Duties: 
  • Source applicable content for use on social media sites (i.e. articles and items of interest); 
  • Post to accounts several times per week, occasionally several times per day;
  • Work closely with Content Developer to produce most effective content for the sites;
  • Use programme social media sites to promote one another;
  • Interact with relevant communities on social media sites;
  • Monitor applicable performance metrics and evaluate site efficacy with Content Developer;  
  • Use knowledge and understanding of various programmes to make informed decisions about what types of posts might be needed and when;
  • Follow EcoKnights Social Media Plan and improvise when needed;
  • Direct EcoKnights and related staff members on use of and contributions to social media sites;
  • Find users to “like” or “follow” EcoKnights accounts; and 
  • Reply to comments, questions, or messages produced from the sites.

Requirements: 

  • Must be currently enrolled in a university or other school of higher learning; 
  • Must have experience using a variety of social media platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, etc.; 
  • Must have effective written and verbal communication skills; 
  • Must be fluent (or close to fluent) in English; 
  • Must be a “self-starter” who is comfortable managing/creating his/her own workload; 
  • Must be proactive but also take directions well; 
  • Knowledge of basic video editing and digital media software (Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, etc.) a plus; 
  • Must be willing to contribute ideas to grow EcoKnights social media presence; 
  • Must be able to deal with uncertainty and adapt to changes with grace and ease;
