Biography

Avvari V. Mohan is an Associate Professor of Strategic Management and Acting Dean at the Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) in the University of Nottingham - Malaysia Campus (UNMC).

He received his doctorate in Marketing and Innovation from the Department of Management Studies of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore following which he visited South Korea on a Research Fellowship at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Prior to joining UNMC, he served as a member of the Faculty of Management at Multimedia University, Cyberjaya, Malaysia.

His research interests are in the areas of Strategy and Innovation with Sustainability oriented Strategies (CSR). He is particularly in collaborations or linkages firms develop with other organisations for Innovation and Sustainable Development/CSR. He has served as a Council Member of the Consumer Forum (CFM) for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Industry, as a recourse person in WTA-UNESCO workshops and recently as Innovation Auditor for MIGHT, Malaysia.

His teaching interests are in strategic management and management of innovation - with particular interest in corporate social responsibility / strategies adopted by firms for sustainability / sustainable development.

He teaches modules on Strategic Management, Sustainable Decisions and Organisations and Management of Innovation in the MBA programme. He has co-taught Marketing Strategy at the masters level and at the undergraduate level taught Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship and Business, New Venture Creation and Marketing Strategy and have co-taught International Business Strategy.

A unique and special module that he teaches is the Advanced Strategic Management - Multiple Perspectives.

Current Research

His research interests are in the general area of business strategy and innovation- particularly about firms developing capabilities for sustainable strategies and Innovation. His is interested in in inter-organizational linkages firms develop for enhancing innovation and also for developing sustainable /socially responsible strategies. In addition he is also interested about how firms located in 'regional clusters', develop linkages or form networks for their business strategies and innovation.

1. Strategies of firms (particularly SMEs) - how they acquire or develop resources and capabilities (internal and external) how this leads to innovation through field based cases studies and using Innovation Systems / Open Innovation frameworks.

2. He is also interested and has plans to study Social Responsibility (CSR) / Sustainable Strategies of firms - again with a focus on how they develop resources and capabilities - of particular interest is to see how firms are linking witn NGOs / other organisations for their CSR activities, the benefits they gain from such linkages / collaborations and problems of such interlinked organisations.
