Article #24: Sustainable lifestyles

SL

The recent global pandemic has highlighted more than ever how interconnected our lives truly are across the planet. The need for us to work as a global community has never been so strong and the failure to do so has never had such potentially serious consequences. This is a call that many of our young people are taking up and, in many cases, are even leading the way on.

However, more still needs to be done. The clock is ticking; the time to take a world view and assess the impact our decisions, as nations and individuals, is having on communities everywhere, is now! We are passionate about the part education can play in this and we hope that these resources will support you as we take on this challenge together.

As we emerge from this global crisis, climate change is our current global crisis. Rising global temperatures are creating more frequent and intense disasters, increased inequalities, and heightened food insecurity impacting millions of people on the planet. We all need to take actions to reduce the global temperature by 1.5 C to ensure the earth’s resources remain sustainable to support all life. Much of this can be done by changing our human activities and behaviours.

This is a global concern and especially of importance for our youth, many of whom have taken up the call and are leading the way to find future solutions. Preparing to understand the causes and impact of sustainability can lead young people to act as global citizens through their creativity, collaboration and focus on generating innovative solutions. Ideas start with reflecting inwards.  People should think about how to live healthy lifestyles and practice behaviors to contribute to a healthier planet. These practices should begin within families and their immediate communities. It is the starting blocks for scaling to sustainability beyond just the individual’s immediate surroundings.

This free not for profit website www.sustainablelifestyleideas.com which contains many ideas and resources that can help address climate change in global communities and also help people to move towards a sustainable lifestyle.

Let’s take up this challenge together and works towards sustainable lifestyles for now and for the generations to come!
