The Leading Edge 
Your transition from school to university 

The Leading Edge is designed to provide you with an advantage in the crucial transition period between your pre-university and tertiary education. Each five-day module is tailored to equip you with the skills you need to become a more effective and successful student. Delivered using the latest teaching and learning technologies and techniques, this course will provide you the springboard that will allow you to leap into your higher education studies with more confidence. It will also help you reinvent yourself as a learner and to give you an advantage in your preparation for tertiary studies and future aspirations. 

 

Modules

The Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Enrichment Series: 
Developing your style 

Learning the DIY Way 
Develop an awareness and understanding of your learning style and begin a journey towards being an independent learner. 

Thinking like Sherlock
Develop your critical thinking and reasoning abilities vital for your problem-solving competency. 


The Sp'inking Series: 
Speaking your thoughts 

Gift of the Gab
Be an effective communicator by participating and engaging in social conversations and academic discussions.

Taking Centre Stage
Be a persuasive presenter and develop a stronger stage presence for academic and formal presentations. 

The Critical Language Skills (CLS) Series: 
Building your language

Wielding Words 
Equip yourself with essential word skills, forming them to suit your language functions.

Between the Lines
Equip yourself with strategies of comprehension, interacting with the text and decoding its meaning. 

Building Writing Blocks
Equip yourself with strategies to construct written language, effectively conveying your message. 


 

Modules offered 


Duration and Intakes  
The programme runs between middle of June and end of August every year.

The application deadline for the Leading Edge varies according to the requested commencement date. 

However, we encourage you to submit your application at least ONE
(1)- month prior to the start of the programme. 

Programme cost

Students have the option of choosing from one of the packages below: 

1 module 

  • Malaysian students: RM1,900
  • International students: USD560  

2 modules 

  • Malaysian students: RM3,500
  • International students: USD950  

4 modules 

  • Malaysian students: RM6,700
  • International students: USD1,700   

7 modules 

  • Malaysian students: RM12,900
  • International students: USD3,200  


Cost includes

  • accommodation on campus premises at The University of Nottingham. The rooms offered will be fully air-conditioned with an en suite bathroom and Internet connection. 
  • three main meals consisting of breakfast, lunch and dinner.  
  • free transportation to and from airport. 

Note: In the event that students prefer to stay off-campus, they must make lodging and transportation arrangements on their own. All payments can be made online.
