Description

Workshop 1: Technology-based Learning in TESOL by Dr Wei Keong Too & Dr Lee Kean Wah

Abstract
Education technologies are an essential part of learning and teaching. They help students and teachers to maximise learning and teaching in a classroom. However, many teachers are still struggling with how to incorporate education technologies effectively. In this workshop, the workshop facilitators will present principle and practice in selecting and using education technologies. The facilitators will also introduce useful tools to be use in classrooms, such as for screen casting, creating quiz and survey, presentation, interactive whiteboard, discussion and chat, and project management.

Workshop 2: Brain-based Teaching and Learning: Engaging the Students by Dr Cynthia Yolanda Doss

Abstract
In recent years, the advancement of science has allowed researchers to understand how the brain perceives, processes, retains and recalls information. Brain-based teaching and learning is an approach that associates teaching and learning with the brain, and the way it works. The main aim of brain-based teaching is to make sure that learning is meaningful. It is based on the fact that the human brain is an organ of extremely high potential and that every child is able to learn effectively, if their brain is given the opportunity to function in an optimum manner. This workshop will discuss the effectiveness of this new perspective in teaching and learning.
