Call for submissions: Young Malaysian poets

Description

If you enjoy writing poetry, this call for submissions will be of interest to you.

We invite Malaysian writers below 35 years of age to submit their poems written in English for a volume of poems to be edited by Professor Malachi Edwin Vethamani and published by Maya Press.

Terms and conditions of submission:  

  1. Malaysians who are 35 years of age and below on 1 January 2020 are eligible to submit their poems.
  2. Submissions cannot exceed 5 poems. All poems must be unpublished work. 
  3. Each poem should not exceed 50 lines. 
  4. All poems must be in English, they can contain words from other languages. 
  5. A short author profile, not exceeding 100 words should be included on the first page of the document. 
  6. All submissions must be typed double-spaced and in Times New Roman, 12-point font-size. 
  7. Only successful writers will be contacted after the selection process. 
  8. Successful writers will not be paid any honorarium but will be entitled to two free copies of the book. 
  9. Copyright of the poems will remain with the author but copyright of the book will belong to the publisher and the editor. 
  10. All submissions must be sent to youngmalaysianpoets@gmail.com. No submissions will be accepted by post or after the deadline.

Deadline for submission: 1 May 2020.  

The edited anthology is expected to come out by January 2021. 

The Editor 
Professor Malachi Edwin Vethamani 
Malachi Edwin Vethamani is Professor of Modern English Literature at the School of English, University of Nottingham Malaysia, poet, writer, critic and bibliographer. His most recent publication is an edited volume entitled Ronggeng-Ronggeng: Malaysian Short Stories (Maya Press, 2020), it covers a period of 60 years of Malaysian short-story writing. He has published two volumes of poems, Complicated Lives (Maya Press, 2016) and Life Happens (Maya Press, 2017). His first collection of short stories, Coitus Interruptus and Other Stories, was published in January 2018. He edited a volume of Malaysian poems entitled Malchin Testament: Malaysian Poems (Maya Press, Kuala Lumpur: 2017) which covers a period of 60 years. In 2003, he edited a volume of poems for young adults entitled In-Sights: Malaysian Poems (Maya Press, Kuala Lumpur). He published A Bibliography of Malaysian Literature in English (Maya Press, Kuala Lumpur) in 2015. This is the first bibliography to trace literary publications in English by Malaysians, from the 1950s to 2014.
