The University of Nottingham
School-of-Geography
Dear Student

Thank you for your recent enquiry on the MSc programmes offered by the School of Geography. We are excited about the opportunity to get to know you and looking forward to welcoming you.

The School of Geography is a supportive and friendly place to study, with high staff: student ratios ensuring that each student receives tailored support and guidance throughout the duration of their studies. Geography straddles the disciplines of Science, Engineering and Social Sciences, and we use this interdisciplinary approach to equip our students with a holistic set of skills for lifelong learning.

We are proud to be located in Malaysia, in a beautiful campus nestled at the foothills of the Titiwangsa mountain range, and in a region that boasts an astonishing wealth of biodiversity and natural geographical features. Our teaching focuses on tropical environments, including rainforests, coastal mangrove forests, lakes and rivers, and provides a broad understanding of global processes and human contexts. We cover specific environmental issues associated with rapid development and explore potential solutions. Our students are given a range of exciting field trip opportunities, to learn about the unique environments of Malaysia.

We have a strong and active research culture within the School, with research themes of biodiversity & conservation management, geospatial and remote sensing applications and water resource management. Our teaching reflects this, and students within the School will have the opportunity to engage with leading researchers in their fields. We have a strong emphasis on the development of independent research skills throughout the progress of your degree.
