This film is the first Penang Hokkien language film. HAI KI XIN LOR (You Mean The World To Me) tells the story of Sunny, a filmmaker who, haunted by a childhood incident, makes a film about his family without their knowledge. Lensed by famous cinematographer Christopher Doyle, this almost autobiographical film is completely shot in Penang.

About the speaker:

The director Saw Teong Hin is also known for helming the Malay-language Puteri Gunung Ledang (The Princess of Mt. Ledang 2004), for which he won Best Director at the Malaysian Film Festival in 2005. You Mean The World To Me won Best Screenplay at 2017 Malaysia Film Festival and is currently screening in Singapore theatres.
