Description
In this public seminar, Dr Susan Leong and Associate Professor Terence Lee will share their insights into media and political trajectories of Malaysia and Singapore from their many years of scholarly and applied research in Australia and in Asia. Dr Leong will be speaking about Global Bersih and Dr Lee will share his thoughts on media issues in Singapore. Both of them will draw from their experience of watching Malaysia and Singapore from the vantage point of Australia. 

About the speakers
Susan Leong is Research Fellow with the School of Media, Culture and Creative Arts at Curtin University, Perth. She is the author of New Media and the Nation in Malaysia (2014) and the Chief Investigator on the Australian Research Council project, Digital China: from Culture Presence to Innovation Nation and Lead Investigator on the Australia-China Council project, Harnessing Cultural Fluency. She is the Associate Editor of the journal, Transitions: Journal of Transient Migration and Co-Editor of the Media, Culture and Communication in Asia-Pacific Societies with Rowman and Littlefield International (with Terence Lee). 

Terence Lee is Associate Professor of Communication and Media Studies at Murdoch University, Perth, Australia. He is Cluster Leader of Society and Communication in the School of Arts and a long time Research Fellow of the Asia Research Centre at Murdoch. He is the author/editor of 6 books, including: Singapore: Negotiating State and Society, 1965-2015 (with Jason Lim, Routledge, 2016), Change in Voting: Singapore's 2015 General Election (with Kevin YL Tan, Ethos Books, 2016) and The Media, Cultural Control and Government in Singapore  (Routledge, 2010).
