SMLC academic participates in young researchers symposium on translation

She presented a paper entitled Sherlock on stage: translating a Victorian detective theatre piece and discussed the implications of producing a period version for the page that simultaneously entails some performability while appealing to a contemporary audience. Taking as a case study the translation of a Sherlock Holmes theatre play, she argued the need to retain certain stereotyping elements of the characters and the setting while adapting the melodramatic features of the piece to current modern expectations.

Cristina had the chance to share a few words with fellow PhD students and professors from the Universidad Autónoma, and was honored to listen to Dr David Katan, the keynote speaker from the University of Salento where he teaches intercultural communication in translation.
