National Higher Education Fund: Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN)

Loan eligibility requirements

To receive this loan, students must:

  • Be a Malaysian citizen, pursuing full time undergraduate programme in UNM.
  • Not receiving any financial assistance from other bodies.
  • Subjected to the ‘mean test’ – evaluation of family financial status.

Loan Disbursement

  • Payments will be made directly to student's personal AFFIN BANK account.
  • Payments are made once per academic year (upon confirmation of passing mark 40% and above)*
  • The first payment is released only after PTPTN receives the completed set of agreement

Loan Repayment

  • Subject to loan amount and course pursued.
  • Repayments will commence 12 months after completion of studies or after securing a job, whichever is earlier.

All applications are subject to PTPTN policy and procedures at the time.

Undergraduate students enrolled in February intake can only apply for PTPTN in Year 2.

PTPTN, short for the National Higher Education Fund Corporation, is a Malaysian government agency that provides financial assistance in the form of education loans to eligible students who are pursuing their tertiary education. 

Who is eligible to apply for a PTPTN loan? 

Malaysian citizens who have gained admission to approved higher education institutions, enrolled in a full-time diploma, degree, or postgraduate programme, and meet PTPTN’s academic requirements can apply. 

What are the interest rates for PTPTN loans? 

PTPTN offers a flat interest rate of 1% that must be repaid once you’ve completed your studies. 

When do I need to start repaying my PTPTN loan? 

Repayments start 12 months after you finish your studies, or after you start working, whichever comes earlier. This 12-month grace period allows you some time to transition into the workforce without having to worry about the loan.

What are the repayment options available for PTPTN loans? 

PTPTN offers various repayment options, making it extremely convenient to do so. Options include salary deduction, online payment, direct debit, and over-the-counter payment. You can choose your preferred methods based on your financial situation.

Can I settle my PTPTN loan before the scheduled duration? 

Yes, you can pay a lump sum to settle your PTPTN loan before the scheduled duration.
