Biosciences PhD Students Win Best Poster Award at PIPOC 2013

The best poster prize was awarded to Ms Nurniwalis Binti Abdul Wahab

Two Biosciences PhD students, Ms Nurniwalis Binti Abdul Wahab (jointly supervised by Festo Massawe, Jeremy Roberts, Mohamad Arif Abd Manaf) and Ms Gan Siou Ting (jointly supervised by Festo Massawe, Sean Mayes, Wong Wei Chee) won Poster awards at the Malaysian Palm Oil Board International Palm Oil Congress 2013 (PIPOC 2013) which was held recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 19th to 21st November 2013. Their research poster titles “Characterization of the ethylene receptor gene family from the oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq)" and "A High Density DArT- and SNP-based Linkage Map of Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis)" were selected as the prize winners out of 100 poster presentations in the ‘Agriculture, Biotechnology and Sustainability’ category.  The best poster prize was awarded to Ms Nurniwalis Binti Abdul Wahab by YB Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Malaysia during the PIPOC dinner and he was accompanied by Datuk Dr. Choo Yuen May (Director General MPOB), Datin Paduka Nurmala Abd Rahim (Secretary General of Plantation Industries and Commodities Malaysia) and YB Dato' Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad (Chairman of MPOB). Ms Gan Siou Ting received her award from Dr Norman Kamarudin, Director of Biology, MPOB during the PIPOC ABS closing ceremony.
