New Biosciences research project

Christina Supramaniam, an Assistant Professor with the School of Biosciences has been awarded the Faculty of Science Pump Priming award to develop a cost-efficient and reliable infection assay to study the relationship between Malaysian oil palm and its most dangerous pathogen, G. boninense, a white rot fungus.

The study will demonstrate a quick, efficient and reliable assay platform to determine early defence signals during the pathogenesis of oil palm plantlets. The assay will be a robust tool in screening for BSR tolerance in superior and elite clones of oil palms.
