Microbiology and molecular plant pathology of the tropics

A team that is actively working on elucidating, analysing and disseminating information on the molecular biology of plant diseases that affect tropical plants, plantation management and the function of these plants for the sustainability of global food security.

Research areas

  • Postharvest pathology
  • Oil palm Ganoderma research
  • Plant-pathogen interactions
  • Production of industrially valuable chemicals in heterologous hosts, such as E. coli, yeast and cyanobacteria
  • Genome mining of fungi for novel natural product biosynthetic pathways
  • Field monitoring studies for pest and pathogens
  • Microbial bio-formulation for composting soil bioremediations
  • Methanogens for the production of oil palm biogas
  • Microbiome of soil and rhizosphere for yield and disease control
