Professional Development Programme for SMK (L) Methodist Kuala Lumpur and Sathya Sai Primary School in Puchong

The School of Education UNMC conducted a Professional Development Programme SMK (L) Methodist Kuala Lumpur on the 2nd May 2016. The workshop, titled, Addressing Diversity in the 21st Century Classroom was attended by around 117 teachers of the school. Led by Dr. Wong Tze Peng, the workshop introduced the participants to the use of Differentiated Instruction and Cooperative Learning to meet the individual needs of students who have learning difficulties and learners who are gifted in a diverse classroom. The workshop was also facilitated by members of staff (Dr. Sivabala Naidu, Ms Angelina Lam and Ms Heah Sue In) and postgraduate students (Blysse Chai, Christina De Cruz, Felicia Ong and Lee Su Ling) from the School of Education. 

Subsequently, a similar workshop was presented to the teachers of Sathya Sai Primary School in Puchong. This workshop was conducted by Dr. Sivabala Naidu and assisted by one students, Lee Ying Wei. 

The workshops, appraised as fun and enjoyable by the teachers also sparked discussions around the feasibility and implementation of differentiated instruction and cooperate learning in the Malaysian school system.
