Description

School of Education is organising a workshop on differentiating instruction for students with literacy issues - Supporting Literacy/Dyslexia across the Curriculum. 

The aims of the session are as follows:

  • Understand current definitions of dyslexia
  • Be aware of some of the barriers to participation and learning experienced by dyslexic learners
  • Understand what is needed to be able to read and spell accurately and fluently
  • Understand why some people are slow to develop these skills
  • Become familiar with some of the approaches that support dyslexic pupils’ learning across the curriculum

About the Speaker:
Jackie Dearden is an Associate Professor in Special Educational Needs in the School of Education at the University of Nottingham. She is involved in teaching and developing the MA in Special Needs as well as conducting research in a wide range of topics. Jackie is also a professional and academic tutor in the School of Psychology and contributes to the training of Educational Psychologists undertaking the Doctorate in Applied Educational Psychology. She has extensive teaching experience having been a deputy head and special needs coordinator of a large inner city primary school. She has also worked as an educational psychologist, special education consultant and trainer locally, nationally and internationally.
