The Rise of China

In the course of a week long tour of Pakistan, The School of Politics, History and International Relations (PHIR) Prof. Neville Wylie gave lectures to Karachi University, Lahore College for Women University, the University of Punjab and the Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad.

His subjects ranged from gender transgressions amongst prisoners of war, the use of 'protecting powers' in international relations and the 'West and the Rise of China'. In the latter, he suggested that the West needed to work through international institutions to accommodate China's rise and avoid the danger of 'securitising' the issue by allowing China's waxing power to be depicted as a 'security threat'.

The paper was discussed in an article in the national Dawn newspaper. Prof Neville also met up with UNMC alumni in Karachi and spoke to audiences in various schools and colleges about studying at foreign universities.
