Returning

Depending on the type of material and its loan status ,you can return library items using the following methods:
  • at the self-service machine (excluding interlibrary loans, requested items and AV materials)
  • at the Customer Services Counter (only for interlibrary loans , requested items and AV materials)
  • through the book return box located near the entrance of the library(only when the library is closed. The pick-up time is 8.30am on weekdays and 10am on weekends.)
  • through the book return box at the Kuala Lumpur Teaching Centre at Chulan Tower. Please fill in the Return-of-library-books form provided before dropping the books in the box.

If you return an item late, you will incur a fine on the book. You need not pay the fine immediately on return, but if your total fines accrued is RM20 or more, your library account will be blocked and you will not be able to borrow any more items, or renew items currently on loan to you, until you pay the fine(s).

Returning items

An item may have to be brought back before the original due date if another patron has requested an item on loan to you.

This means that the loan item may be called back for another user before the original due date. An Item due notice will be sent to you, giving you the new due date (usually six days from the date of the notice) to return the book.

How to check when your items are due back

You can check your library web account when your loans are due back.

Final semester students

Your entitlement to borrow books from the library ends on the last day of the examination period of the final semester of your course.

If you are an undergraduate, foundation or mobility student, your library account expires on 31st May of your final semester.

If you are a postgraduate (other than from the School of Education), your library account expires on 30th September.

If you are a research postgraduate or a postgraduate from the School of Education, the expiration date of your library account is 31st December of your final year.

Students are not allowed to borrow or renew their books after the expiration date. All outstanding loans should be returned, and all outstanding fines should be paid by the respective cut-off dates.

Should you receive any course extension from your school or department, your school or department must notify Library Services in order for your library account to be extended.

Please note that the non-return of any books in your account or the non-settlement of any library fines may stop you from graduating.

For mobility students, please make sure that your library account is cleared of all library items and fines before going back to your home country.
