UG Research Project

Mr Ooi Kai Sheng has worked with his final year project supervisor Dr Chen ZhiYuan and co-supervisor Dr Poh Phaik Eong (Monash University Malaysia) and Prof Cui Jian (research collaborator from Chinese Academy of Sciences) to publish his research “BOD5 Prediction Using machine learning methods” into Water Supply journal (Science Citation Index Expanded).  This study employed multiple machine learning (ML) methods such as random forest (RF), support vector regression (SVR) and multilayer perceptron (MLP) to train a best model that can accurately predict the BOD5 values in water samples based on other physical and chemical properties of the water. A group of students (Howe Seng Goh, Kai Ling Sin, Kelly Lim, Nicole Ka Hei Chung, Xin Yu Liew) with their second year group project supervisor Dr Chen ZhiYuan has recently published a joint paper “Automated Agriculture Commodity Price Prediction System with Machine Learning Techniques” in Advances in Science, Technology and Engineering Systems Journal. The intention of this research is to study and design an automated agriculture commodity price prediction system with novel machine learning techniques. This paper is part of a research funded by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia under the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS/1/2018/ICT02/UNIM/02/1).
