The University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Professor in School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences. 

The post holder will be expected to contribute to academic activities through the delivery of high-quality teaching and research, and they will be required to undertake administrative work and/or management functions as required and to generally assist with the efficient and effective running of the School and the wider university. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Curriculum Leadership
    • Contributing to the design and development of modules within the relevant subject area.
    • Designing and marking assessments with effective and timely feedback to students.
    • Contribution to delivering University Strategy on teaching and learning.
    • Outputs related to teaching activity, course development, or assessment, which may include production of teaching materials, software, videos, workbooks or publishing relevant articles etc
  • Research & Scholarship
    •  Assisting with research supervision of PhD students and other project students (e.g., final year UG, PGT).
    • Involvement in specialist teaching activities based on research to UG & PG students and/or industry.
    • Communication of scholarly work to the public/public bodies.
    • Involvement in peer review of publications/grants.
  • University/Academic Service and Good Citizenship
    • Contribution to the development of strategy/policy at Departmental/School level.
    • Project management responsibility.
    • Evidence of planning and delivering individual or joint objectives/projects as an individual and team member.
    • Contribution to University’s international profile via engagement with the Global Engagement Strategy.
    • Contribution to collegiate activities in support of staff and/or student communities
    • Evidence of participating in continuous professional development (CPD).

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Computer Science or a closely related area, from a reputable institution.
  • Expert technical knowledge and skills in at least one Computer Science (or closely related) area; e.g. Software Engineering, AI, Cyber Security,…, etc. (all relevant subject areas will be considered)
  • Excellent organisational skills and the potential for leadership. (some demonstrable leadership experience is expected, for Associate level)
  • Proven skills in motivating undergraduate / postgraduate students, and ideally colleagues as well.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, demonstrating the ability to represent the School, both within the University and externally.
  • Communication, research and teaching skills.
  • Proven teaching experience in the Higher Education sector, with a focus on international contexts, enriching student learning through exposure to diverse global perspectives.
  • Ability to engage and retain the interest and enthusiasm of students and inspire them to learn.
  • Experience of working as a member of a team, using demonstrable interpersonal and teambuilding skills.
  • Evidence of high-quality Computer Science (or closely related) research, e.g.: publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience of securing external research funding, or evidence of the ability to develop a long-term research programme including a robust funding plan.
  • Possess an excellent command of English and be an outstanding communicator, who will act as an ambassador for the School and the wider university.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, incorporating written and oral communication skills, time management, organizational, ICT literacy and administrative skills.

  • Passionate and caring about students and their learning.
  • Passionate and caring about colleagues and the school’s environment, as a team, and willing to help and support others.
