We invite applications for the position of Assistant Professor in the School of Politics and International Relations from candidates who hold a PhD and have more than five years of relevant professional experience. The role encompasses responsibilities across academic teaching, student supervision, research and knowledge exchange, administrative duties, school development, and providing pastoral care to students.Job Responsibilities:
Serve as an integral part of the School’s new emphasis on Foundation teaching, which includes not only convening the NFP ‘Social Sciences II’ module but also the Year 1 ‘Foundation to International Studies’ core module, where students are taught the basics to Political Science and International Relations . Contribute to curriculum development to allow the newly-merged SPIRE School to pivot towards the creation of a new degree programme which brings together Political Science, Economics and Philosophy/Political Theory. The colleague would be expected to focus on module development which can help fill the existing gap in the fields of Philosophy and Political Theory, where the new School is currently lacking. This would allow the School to eventually produce a brand new degree programme where it would be capable of rivalling those offered by our competitors in the domain of Politics, Philosophy and Economics. Supervising UG and PGR dissertations. Develop a successful research agenda by prioritizing an outlay of quick-fire publications to support the School’s overall research output. Display due regard for student well-being, principally by providing counselling, advice, referrals and references as needed. Job Requirements: A PhD from a recognised and reputable university, along with a proven record of employment in a university setting, is required. Preference will be given to candidates who hold at least an Associate Fellowship under a recognized Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) program. Candidates must have over five years of experience working at university-level higher education institution with an international scope or setting. They should also possess recognised teaching experience, at least at the level of a graduate teaching assistant, and demonstrate the ability to effectively support student learning. Strong knowledge of the academic disciplines of Political Science, Political Theory, Philosophy, and History, with demonstrated research capabilities that contribute to high-quality publications and effective knowledge transfer. Candidates with research activities that facilitate engagement with external stakeholders, including policymakers and civil society organisations, are highly desirable. Demonstrate a collegial attitude, good citizenship, and the ability to manage a demanding role at a major international satellite campus in a developing country context. Strong commitment to student well-being and active engagement in community service. Proficiency in using social media for student recruitment and the dissemination of research findings is highly desirable.
