The University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Executive (Electrical) within the Estate Department. The role includes supervising shift technicians, coordinating daily inspection activities, monitoring work order execution through the maintenance management system, ensuring compliance requirements are met, and acting as the operational link between technicians, vendors, supervisors, and management during each shift.

Generic Responsibilities:

  • Routine Maintenance - Coordinate and oversee preventive maintenance, inspections, vendor activities, inventory management, utility monitoring, and root cause investigations to ensure optimal system performance and operational reliability.
  • System Diagnostics - Perform and coordinate technical diagnostics, troubleshooting, and routine testing of equipment, fire protection systems, utility networks, and backup power systems to ensure optimal performance and operational continuity.
  • Repairs and Replacements - Identify faulty components, carry out mechanical and electrical repairs, and replace damaged or outdated parts in accordance with safety standards, manufacturer guidelines, and regulatory requirements. Ensure all repaired systems are tested, verified, and properly documented for traceability and audit purposes.
  • Documentation & Reporting - Maintain accurate records of shift logs, maintenance activities, inspections, equipment status, and incidents. Prepare technical reports, review vendor service reports, and escalate issues while ensuring timely follow-up actions are completed.
  • User Interaction - Coordinate responses to user-reported M&E issues, communicate the root causes and corrective actions clearly, provide basic guidance to users, and prepare incident analysis reports with recommendations for management review.
  • MaintainX Work Orders Monitoring - Monitor, assign, and follow up on work orders to ensure timely completion within SLA requirements. Verify task completion, update maintenance records, and escalate issues where necessary due to technical or resource constraints.

Job Requirements: 

  • Low Voltage Chargeman certification recognised by Suruhanjaya Tenaga.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience working with Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems, UPS, generators, and building electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience in electrical troubleshooting, repair works, preventive maintenance activities, and coordinating technicians or contractors.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems in compliance with Suruhanjaya Tenaga requirements and relevant safety regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams (SLD), and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of LV switchboards, distribution boards (DB), capacitor banks, earthing systems, and protective devices.
  • Understanding of relevant regulatory standards, including DOSH/JKKP and Suruhanjaya Tenaga requirements (and NEC/NFPA where applicable).
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) or SCADA integration is an advantage.
  • Ability to coordinate maintenance activities and respond effectively during electrical emergencies.
  • Good planning, reporting, and documentation skills.
  • Positive attitude with strong teamwork and leadership capabilities.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills with the ability to make practical decisions.
  • Clear and effective communication skills across all levels.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and safety awareness.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate team members.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call duty rotation and provide emergency response support outside normal working hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including indoor, outdoor, confined spaces, and at heights.
