We are seeking for suitably qualified candidates to apply for Technician (Civil & Structural) position in Estate Department, at the University of Nottingham Malaysia.
The Civil & Structural Technician is responsible for performing routine and corrective maintenance, repairs, and minor works related to civil and structural elements across the university campus. These include plumbing systems, flooring, ceiling, doors and locks, painting, roofing, tiling, waterproofing, and drainage systems. The role involves hands-on maintenance tasks, inspections, troubleshooting, and ensuring work quality and safety standards. The technician supports the Estate Department in maintaining a safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environment for the university community.
Job Responsibilities:
- Carry out routine and corrective maintenance on plumbing systems (including pipework, fixtures, and fittings), roofing and waterproofing works, wall, floor, and ceiling finishes, doors, locks, tiling, and other fittings, as well as external structures such as kerbs, walkways, and drains.
- Respond promptly to work orders and service requests via the CMMS (e.g., MaintainX).
- Assist in the execution of small-scale refurbishment or upgrading projects.
- Support contractors and vendors on-site under supervision, ensuring university safety and quality standards are upheld.
- Assist in site preparation, demolition, installation, or repair works as needed.
- Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure safe work practices in all tasks, particularly in confined spaces or at heights.
- Report hazards, incidents, and near misses immediately to the supervisor.
- Support environmental initiatives by ensuring waste is properly managed during works.
- Record work activities, materials used, and time taken via the CMMS system.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
- Report any recurring faults or potential improvements to the Operations Assistant Manager.
Job Requirements:
- Certificate or vocational training in Civil Engineering, Plumbing, or Building Maintenance/ Diploma in Civil or Building Services Technology.
- 2–3 years of relevant hands-on experience in civil maintenance or facilities services.
- Skilled in plumbing, painting, tiling, roof repair, and basic masonry.
- Able to read simple drawings or plans with basic computer literacy for using CMMS apps.
- Reliable, disciplined, and safety- conscious.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Physically fit for manual work.
- Full-time position. Shift-based or weekend duty may be required depending on operational needs.
- Availability for emergency response outside of regular working hours (evenings, weekends, or holidays).
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions (indoors/outdoors, confined spaces, heights, etc.).
