Nottingham is UK's top School of Pharmacy

Pharmacy student

According to the 2012 Complete University Guide league tables The School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham has been ranked as the top School of Pharmacy in British higher education. This is the third consecutive year that Nottingham has claimed the number one position.

"As a university, we are extremely proud of this achievement which is another feather in the cap for us after clinching our high ranking in both local and international tables last year,” said Professor Ian Pashby, CEO & Provost of The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC).“Due to the increasing demand of recent graduates, our School of Pharmacy aims to expand the programmes offered”, said Prof Pashby.

In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise, 95 percent of the School’s research was found to be of international quality, and 35 percent “world-leading”, making it also the top UK School of Pharmacy for research. Research in universities is a key indicator of the quality of education on offer and teaching staff at the School are indeed at the leading edge of scientific and healthcare developments. UNMC’s long standing commitment towards research supports the University’s ambition to become the first private university in Malaysia to hold the research university status under the Malaysian Research Assessment Instrument (MYRA) by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.

The School of Pharmacy started at UNMC in 2005 offering a 2+2 MPharm degree, whereby students study at the Malaysia campus for the first two years before completing the final two years in the UK. In 2007 this programme became the first pharmacy degree on offer in Malaysia to be fully accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain / General Pharmaceutical Council (UK). Graduates of this degree may practise as Pharmacists, not only in the UK, but also in Malaysia, Singapore and the other countries around the world that recognises the UK  Pharmacy degree.

In September 2010 The School of Pharmacy started recruiting for its new BSc (Hons) programme in Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences, which has been designed to equip graduates for a career in the pharmaceutical industries. This programme is a full-time degree studied over three years at the Malaysia Campus.

“This new success is an indicator of the high standard of teaching and research within the school. It is particularly pleasing that student satisfaction is one of the indicators used by the Complete University Guide to evaluate degree courses,” said Professor Stephen Doughty, Vice-Provost (Teaching and Learning), UNMC.

Prospective students can be certain that by joining the School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham they are positioned on a dedicated pathway for a successful career in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Sciences.
