Professor Andy Long will become the new Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) of the University of Nottingham, from 1 July 2018.

As DVC Professor Long will lead operational planning and academic resources across the University and support the Vice-Chancellor in providing strategic leadership for the University.

He will line manage the five Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellors and work with the Provosts of the University’s China and Malaysia campuses to ensure a joined-up approach to our global operations.

He will also work with the Pro-Vice-Chancellors for Research and for Student Experience to maintain and extend our delivery of world changing research, excellent teaching and outstanding student experience.

Professor Long has studied and worked at the University since 1990 and is currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Engineering, leading 800 staff across six departments with more than 4,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The Faculty ranks in the top ten engineering faculties in the UK (QS World University Rankings), and the most recent Research Excellence Framework rated more than 98% of its research as of international quality and 85% as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent.’

Announcing the appointment, Vice-Chancellor Professor Shearer West said: “I am delighted that Andy will be our next Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Andy has a long and distinguished career both at Nottingham and within his academic field, and an unrivalled depth of understanding for the University. I am particularly pleased that we have been able to secure a Nottingham staff and student alumnus in this vital role for the University.”

Looking ahead to taking up his new role, Professor Long said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed to this role, and look forward to working with Shearer and with the University community to address the challenges that we face.”

Recruitment to role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Engineering will commence shortly.
