On 7 November, the University of Nottingham Malaysia organised the Award Ceremony 2023 to recognise the contributions of dedicated staff members and exceptional students through Long Service Awards, the Vice-Chancellor’s Medal, and a Professional Services Award. This annual event was attended by the Provost and CEO of UNM, Professor Sarah Metcalfe, who presented the awards to each recipient.

“All those receiving awards today embody our values of ambition, openness, respect, inclusivity, and fairness. It is, therefore, a special pleasure to be able to recognise our staff and students who have contributed so much” said Prof Sarah Metcalfe during the award ceremony.

Long Service Award

The award ceremony honoured 27 academic and administrative staff members for their long service to UNM. This award recognises the contribution of those who have provided 15 years of service to the UNM academic community.

“I am happy to be here to celebrate my colleagues wonderful career milestone. Success is only possible with teamwork and this award recognises the dedicated team players who ensure our university remains one of the leading higher education institutions in Malaysia,” said Prof Sarah Metcalfe.

“Their years of hard work and commitment to the University of Nottingham Malaysia serve as an inspiration to us all.”

The Vice-Chancellor's Medal (VC’s Medal) Award

This award was first introduced in 2015 to recognise the outstanding achievements of nominated staff and students from all three Nottingham campuses. The criteria for nominating candidates for this medal include outstanding contribution to advancing equality, diversity and inclusion in university life; a notable endeavour which has made a difference to the University; a substantive contribution which has enhanced the reputation of the University of Nottingham; activity which has had a noticeably positive impact for students, staff or the local community; and an individual achievement or sustained achievement over a period of time. A number of recipients of the VC’s medal received their awards at our graduation ceremony in July, but here we were able to recognise the achievements of three academic staff, four students and a team from Chemical and Environmental Engineering.

Professional Services Award

Professional Services Awardsrecognise a Professional Services team that has gone over and above with their ambition to support others and succeeded in all they strived to achieve over the course of the year. Like the VC medals, these awards are open to professional services staff across all 3 campuses. The Careers Advisory Service (CAS) of the University of Nottingham Malaysia received an award for its achievement in fostering creativity in its role to enhance students’ career readiness. This award recognises CAS’s innovative partnership with Forage, a Silicon Valley startup that provides virtual job simulations with Fortune 500 companies. Apart from virtual modules, CAS also collaborated with KPMG Malaysia on the KPMG Forage Data Analytics Virtual Internship programme and presented the programme with live demonstrations in classrooms. This partnership with Forage is the first of its kind for any Malaysian careers centre.
