Kuala Lumpur, 11 September 2025 – The School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) successfully hosted the 5th Joint Postgraduate Research (PGR) Symposium, in collaboration with Srinakharinwirot University (SWU), Thailand, and Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TUTCM), China. Held in a hybrid format, the symposium celebrated the power of global partnerships in advancing biomedical research and innovation.
A Platform for Ideas and Partnerships
The event brought together postgraduate students, early career researchers, and academic leaders to share findings, exchange perspectives, and strengthen international ties. Discussions highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary approaches in tackling today’s biomedical and healthcare challenges.

Keynote Voices on Biomedical Innovation
Keynote and plenary sessions featured Prof Dr Wang Xiaoying, Dr Goh Hoe Han, and Dr Laura Sadofsky, who spoke on the symposium’s theme, “Innovation in Biomedical Science: from Discovery to Therapeutics”.
Their insights explored the journey from fundamental research to real-world therapeutic applications, underscoring how discovery-driven science, paired with translational approaches, can transform patient outcomes and shape the future of healthcare.

Celebrating Milestones in Collaboration
Now in its fifth year, the Joint PGR Symposium continues to build a thriving research network across Malaysia, Thailand, and China. This year’s edition carried added significance as it coincided with two major milestones: the 100-year anniversary of the University of Nottingham’s School of Pharmacy in the UK and the 25th anniversary of UNM in Malaysia. Both legacies stand as testaments to the University’s enduring commitment to education, research excellence, and global partnerships.
Looking Ahead
The collaboration will continue next year, with the 6th Joint PGR Symposium set to take place in Bangkok, hosted by Srinakharinwirot University. The tradition of academic exchange and partnership is expected to grow even stronger, fostering innovative research that transcends borders.
