The University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) and Greenheart Farms Sdn Bhd, a leading producer of high-quality pesticide-free vegetables through intensive agriculture farming, formalised a strategic collaboration with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 15 May 2026. The agreement was signed by Professor Ir. Dr. Mohd Shahir Liew, Vice Provost for Research and Knowledge Exchange at UNM, and Mr. Richard Price, Director of Greenheart Farms Sdn Bhd.
The MoU establishes a framework for academic and scientific co-operation between both institutions, with a shared focus on advancing sustainable agriculture and high-quality food production in Malaysia. Areas of collaboration include technical knowledge exchange in agri-technology and biotechnology innovations, the development of agri-food production systems, and the potential establishment of a dedicated Biological Control Research and Development Centre.

Following the signing ceremony, delegates were hosted on a tour of UNM's Postharvest Centre, led by Dr. Ajit Singh, offering Greenheart Farms' management team a firsthand look at UNM's research capabilities in food science and agricultural technology. The visit was followed by a networking lunch, providing an opportunity for both parties to explore future joint initiatives.
Greenheart Farms is dedicated to increasing crop yields and improving the horticulture industry in Malaysia, with a specialisation in pesticide-free vegetable production through intensive farming methods. It is an approach that aligns closely with UNM's research strengths in sustainable food systems. The signing of this MoU strengthens UNM’s role in advancing Malaysia’s agricultural innovation for a more sustainable future. On a larger scale, it also reflects the University's ongoing commitment to forging meaningful industry partnerships that translate academic expertise into real-world impact.
