On 21 July 2026, the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) and Hualang Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd, a green energy company that focuses on clean and sustainable energy solutions, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The signing builds on a prior agreement between the institutions that was first established in 2020. Following renewed engagement in April 2026, both parties agreed to move forward with a structured collaboration framework covering key areas in renewable and green energy.
The signing ceremony began with welcome remarks from Prof. Shahir Liew, followed by a speech from Dato' Setia Dr. J.P. Tan. Both leaders expressed enthusiasm for the partnership and a shared commitment to advancing work in renewable and green energy. The formal signing was followed by a discussion on potential projects and the way forward.
Looking ahead, Hualang Renewable Energy will propose specific collaboration projects to UNM, with both parties exploring opportunities across the renewable energy space. Upon securing funding, there will also be possibilities for UNM postgraduate research students to be appointed as Research Assistants on joint projects, providing valuable research experience at the intersection of academia and industry.
The execution of this MoU marks another milestone in UNM's ongoing efforts to forge meaningful industry partnerships that translate academic expertise into real-world impact.
