The University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) is honoured to announce the appointment of Professor Philipp Rauschnabel as Honorary Professor at Nottingham University Business School Malaysia (
NUBS), effective 1 August 2025.
Professor Rauschnabel is currently Professor of Digital Marketing and Media Innovation at the Universität der Bundeswehr München (University of the Federal Armed Forces, Munich), Germany, where he has been based since 2018 following his tenure at the University of Michigan–Dearborn in the United States. He is recognised as a leading scholar in Extended Reality (XR), the Metaverse, and Digital Marketing, with an exceptional academic record comprising more than 100 publications and over 22,000 citations.
His research excellence has earned him global recognition, including being named among the Top 1% of Academics as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (2025) and the Top 2% of Scientists on the Stanford List (2025). In addition to his research contributions, Professor Rauschnabel currently serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Business Research and sits on the Scientific Advisory Board of XR Bavaria e.V.
Beyond academia, Professor Rauschnabel is actively engaged with industry and public policy. He regularly delivers keynote addresses and executive workshops on Spatial Computing, Augmented Reality, and the Metaverse, and advises organisations on emerging digital technologies. In 2022, he also advised the German government on matters related to the Metaverse and Web3 technologies.
As an Honorary Professor, Professor Rauschnabel will hold a formal affiliation with Nottingham University Business School Malaysia, contributing through research collaborations with faculty, staff research exchanges, guest lectures, co-supervision of PhD candidates, and mentoring of students. As such, his appointment aligns him closely with UNM’s strategic goals of boosting interdisciplinary research impact and global recognition.
