Biography

Dr Khameel B. Mustapha is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering, University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. He received the B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from University of Ilorin (Nigeria). After being awarded a Graduate Research Fellowship in 2007, he proceeded to King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (Saudi Arabia) for MSc (by research) in Mechanical Engineering. He holds a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (sponsored by Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research). He is also a recipient of two teaching-related qualifications: Grad Cert in Learning and Teaching (Higher Ed), Swinburne University of Technology (Melbourne, Australia) and PGCHE (University of Nottingham). He is a fellow of Higher Education Academy (UK). In previous positions, he's held the following posts: (i) lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science, Swinburne University of Technology (Malaysia); and (ii) research scholar, School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (NTU, Singapore). He is the author of the books Finite Element Computations in Mechanics with R (Taylor & Francis, 2018) and R for Finite Element Analyses of Size-dependent Microscale Structures (Springer Nature, 2019).

Current Research

Dr Mustapha is an engineering scientist with a deep-rooted interest in computational applied mathematics. His core research expertise is at the intersection of mechanics and computational numerical analyses, and the application of these two knowledge domains to structures, materials and systems ranging from those with unconventional (nano, micro etc.) to those with conventional dimensions. And given the status of mechanics as the foundational root of many scientific subfields, his research interest spans related areas such as vibration, stability, wave propagation, nano-/micromechanics of miniaturized electromechanical systems, micro/nano-architected systems, mechanobiology, mechanics of smart materials and magnetoelasticity.
