Current Research

Wong's key research focus is exploiting plant genetic variation and applying molecular selection methods for improvement of quantitative traits in oil palm i.e., high oil yield and Ganoderma disease resistance. Current research programs include: (1) genomic-assisted marker development for crop improvement; (2) molecular investigation of oil palm tissue culture amenability and somaclonal variant; (3) population genetics of Ganoderma boninense and basal stem rot disease resistance; (4) breeding for drought tolerant oil palm materials.
