Biography

Ir. Dr. Freddy Tan Kheng Suan received his B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering with First Class and Ph.D. in Power Electronics. He also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education. In 2015, he served as a postdoctoral researcher at the UMPEDAC, University of Malaya, and subsequently joined Asia Pacific University as a Senior Lecturer in 2016. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Nottingham Malaysia.

Dr. Freddy is a Professional Engineer (Electrical) registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, and a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA), UK. He was awarded the Merdeka Award for International Attachment in 2021 and the ASEAN-ROK Exchange Fellowship in 2016. As Principal Investigator, he has secured more than RM1.5 million in national and international research grants.

To date, Dr. Freddy has successfully supervised two Ph.D. students to completion, with research outcomes published in high-impact journals and book chapters. He is currently supervising four additional Ph.D. candidates.

He has also served as a guest researcher at Aalborg University and Ajou University. His research interests include power converters and wide-bandgap semiconductor devices. In addition, he has acted as a consultant for various industries in the areas of power electronics converters and GaN semiconductor technologies.
