The Inaugural Benefactors’ Evening

The Inaugural Benefactors Evening was held on 9 May 2016 to raise funds for the pathways programme, to raise aspirations and provide education opportunities for local communities. The evening was hosted by Prof. Christine Ennew at the Glasshouse, Seputeh for the UNMC Foundation and was attended by friends of the university and alumni.

The UNMC Foundation was the brainchild of our Provost, Prof. Christine Ennew in her passion to provide education opportunities to those from disadvantaged backgrounds, as well as to enhance the quality of life of the community around us.

The UNMC is funding the education of two students from the indigenous Penan, Wanna and Amelia, in Sarawak. The two students shared their story of how education of the indigenous communities is very often overlooked in society’s fast paced growth and progress. Now Wanna and Amelia will be pioneers from their remote village in Borneo who is pursuing a university education.

It was an insightful and fun filled evening where guests were served with a three course dinner, treated to accompanying live music and took part in a charity auction, with time for sharing knowledge and expertise from successful alumni!

Since the Inaugural Benefactors Evening, kind contributors are still coming forward to support the initiatives of the foundation, recognising the far reaching impact of our work in our community and nation as a whole.
